WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU'RE SO SPECIAL?

Our epiphanies sometimes come in strange and unusual ways. As I was on the phone listening to Paul who was so rigid, so focused on control, so obviously feeling small and insignificant, the real point of the conversation came to me as he asked, "What makes you think you're so special?" Now, out of context and in a different frame of reference this is a wonderful opening for me. In this situation, though, Paul was coming from a place of lack, scarcity, and the need to be in control. I often refer to this as competition energy or poverty consciousness. The feeling that there's never enough to go around and that you'll lose yours if someone else gets theirs.

I won't go into all the details of the situation right now, but my immediate thoughts opened to a question back: "What happened in your life that makes you think you're NOT special?" When we have been wounded, when we have been made to play small, our playground is limited. We lose the ability to expand into our rightful position in life and resent those who have found the way to break free.

This corrosive, small thinking is what holds us back. And, in our daily lives, we may at times be faced with situations that challenge us to make a choice.

Do we choose to play in the cesspool of life or are we ready to move up into the real playground? If we keep looking for garbage, we will find it. If we keep positioning ourselves in life to have to exert the illusion of our power to control others, we become stuck in that illusion. When we operate from the need to rigidly control people, places and things around us to create the illusion of safety, it's a warning sign that we are, in fact, raging OUT of control.

It's also important to remember that when we are faced with the challenges that come up in life (and they will!) we have a choice.

Do you choose to stand your ground and fight with the bullies, or do you choose to rise above it all into the realms of peace and love?

Do you choose to be right, or do you choose to be happy?

This was all about a motion detector light on my patio the size of a Post-It note that was installed before I moved in more than 3 years ago. The Board of my homeowners association had decided it was unauthorized and that "I didn't need it" (Paul's words). Despite the fact that there are years of missing board minutes, that I hired a consultant to review our governing documents to point out to them that this was entirely consistent with my rights, and that I had stressed to the Board the safety factors, Paul was set in his ways and determined to win.

When I received the letter from the attorney telling me the Board was going to remove the light, ignoring the fact that they were not taking responsibility for their actions, I became inflamed. I spent almost the entire day doing what I tell people NOT to do: having conversations with people who weren't in the room, focusing on the problem and not the solution, allowing the pain of all the past injustices I had suffered well up around me like a great amorphous ooze.

The truth is that fear and anger were raging through me. And yet, unlike others, I had the tools to pull my way out. I used the "Be still and know that I am God" meditation (see the next section for specifics) to find my answers and was delighted with my choice: focus on the golden ball of Divine light that is already shining bright or be caught in the haze, the clouds, of red angry energy that lacks clarity and excitement. I made the choice to see life from a higher perspective, to see with Divine eyes.

We all came here to give and to receive love. I chose love. I chose to allow Divine light to shine on my doorstep and to enlighten my life.

What is really intriguing to me is what happened in that day of rage. No phone calls, relatively few emails. Even all of my regularly scheduled clients had "forgotten" to call that day. The flow had stopped. It reminded me that our own negativity is a powerful force that creates toxins in our bodies and wreaks havoc in our lives. We effectively block the flow of our good to us when we "indulge" ourselves in harmful thoughts and emotions.

The day before had been brilliantly energized with opportunities, connections and success. This new day, after having released the old beliefs that held me back, releasing the hold that had been placed on my energy, I woke up to phone calls, 35 emails, and being back into the flow of grace, ease, and love.

Instantaneous response. No delays. All based on my choosing and on my decision to release and let go.

Do you want to be free or do you choose to be locked in your self-imposed prison???

Always remember that you have a choice. No one's doing it to you, and no one can do it for you. Remember, too, that the Power behind you is greater than the problem in front of you.

And while we're at it, take some time this week to think of all the reasons that you are special, all the reasons that you deserve to have everything you desire, all the reasons you are worthy of the very best in life. Allow yourself some time to vision all the wonderful, loving, prosperous, abundant, joyful things that you desire, the things you are creating in your life now. Take time, too, this week to let other people in your life know how special they are to you. Share the love that blesses your life and it will come back to you multiplied.

Choose to give yourself the gift of freedom and joy and peace and prosperity. YOU deserve it!

"BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD"

I'm often asked about how to get in touch with higher wisdom and guidance. Over the years I've developed my intuition and with regular daily practices have a strong connection in that area. One of my favorite practices when I am faced with a decision is to use the "Be still and know that I am God" meditation. I'll share it with you today for those who might find it helpful.

Begin by getting into a relaxing, supportive position in a couch or chair. Start by taking in several deep breaths and exhaling completely. Continue to breathe deeply and exhale completely throughout this exercise. Then, with your eyes closed, begin to say the phrase "Be still and know that I am God" silently to yourself 10 times. (You can use your fingers to help you keep count.) For the next round, drop off one word, so that the second time you'll be repeating, "Be still and know that I am" to yourself silently 10 times. Continue to drop one word at a time from the phrase, repeating each 10 times, until you complete with repeating the word "Be" 10 times. When you have finished, you will have received some kind of guidance to show you the way, often in pictures, images, thoughts, or words.

It's easy and it's simple. If you don't resonate with the word God, use any word that you choose that represents your belief in a power greater than yourself. It's all about tapping into higher levels of consciousness as you claim your rightful divine connection. Best yet, it works!

Laural called to tell me about her couch. She's one of those brilliant women who came into the workshop and instantly began manifesting - a new car, a home in an incredibly gorgeous area of Los Angeles for a phenomenal price, and the list went on. Her new home is rather small for her family and she "fantasized" the ideal couch with a spring that would fold out into a double bed for guests. I talked to a man who was in my last workshop group and he was ecstatic about his new job! When he started the workshop, he hated the job he was at, found it really hard to get out of bed in the morning, and waited for the moment when he could leave. We quickly began to shift his focus from what he DIDN'T want to what he chose for his life. Within a few weeks, he was making a sales call and was offered a job at a high-end car dealership, his dream job. The path was opened wide and he was soon working there. Using only 3 of the techniques he'd learned in the workshop, he immediately began to attract clients and sales. At one point, he told me, people were lined up to see him on the lot and he had to direct them to others. In the first week and a half he'd sold 5 cars, even though he was training some of the time. By the end of 3 and a half weeks, he had sold a car three days in a row and they were talking to him about management positions! Best yet, no one knew what he was doing to easily attract the clients, the sales, and the success!!!
