ARE YOU CHOOSING LEMONS OR LEMONADE?
There's the saying that if Life throws you lemons,
make lemonade. Well, I don't know about you, but sometimes in
the really challenging moments of life it's a hard concept for
me to wrap my brain around. Every experience in our lives is a
blessing and a gift, yet there are those times when I wish someone
else could be blessed for once. It's in those precious moments
that we can be reminded of our greatest lessons. I'd like to share
an example.
Let me start this story by telling you that I registered
for a conference about six weeks ago and couldn't get a room at
the conference hotel, so I booked a room at a major chain in the
town.
I checked in after a two-hour drive, absolutely
looking forward to the experiences I was about to have.
There was trash in the hallways. The elevator didn't
have any ventilation and was like a heat chamber. Then I got to
my room.
As I walked in, I knew this wasn't for me. It smelled
musty and moldy, I could see water stains on the carpet, there
was an orange light bulb in the bathroom, a three-quarter closet
so my clothes were hanging on the floor, and I couldn't open the
sliding door to air the room out because there wasn't a screen
door. The toilet paper roller didn't work and there was only one
washcloth hanging over the towel bar. I was getting sick to my
stomach from the air. When I called the front desk, she said it
was a standard room and that all of their rooms were the same.
I can only tell you that I lost it. All the calm
and peace that I'd had were gone. I was really angry. I became
intent on finding another room somewhere - anywhere - else and
started to make calls. Obsessively. I didn't know why this was
happening to me, but I knew I didn't like it. Every hotel I called
was fully booked or closed. Finally, at 11:30 I decided to surrender
and stay one night. More importantly, I decided to change my attitude.
I went to sleep with my vision of a wonderful room
and the perfect experience for this conference. I talked to the
Universe and turned this problem over to Divine Source. I affirmed
my faith that the perfect hotel room would be provided and that
I would be joyful. I was grateful for the room that I knew they
were preparing for me, even though I didn't understand why this
awful room had come to me to experience.
When I woke up in the morning, I had flea bites
all over one of my legs. Did I need any more confirmation that
this wasn't where I belonged? I made coffee, then sat down and
asked for guidance, knowing that it would come. I picked up the
information packet I'd received and saw that I'd written down
the number of the conference hotel. I called.
The woman in reservations was sympathetic, but told
me that she had a two-page waiting list for rooms and couldn't
help me. I explained that I had flea bites on my leg - did she
have ANY suggestions? She put me on hold and then came back to
tell me that she could give me a room. I fairly gushed with joy
and got to work.
Packing my car, I went to check out. Because I'd
had such a miserable experience (and the flea bites to prove it!)
the manager didn't charge me for my room. What an unexpected surprise!
I got to the conference hotel, which had just been
renovated, and felt a magical glow. Everything was so nice and
civilized and clean. I unpacked my car (three trips) and found
my conference room right downstairs. I was there with time to
spare. From phone call to conference meeting, less than one hour.
Easy, effortless, joyful.
So, what's the point of all this? Life happens and
sometimes it seems to throw us curves. Escrows don't close on
time, cars break down, deals don't go through when we think they
should. That's part of the adventure. There's also tragedy. Death,
hurricanes, divorce, loss of work. It's what you do in those moments
of the curves, tragedies, or seeming obstacles that makes the
difference.
It's what you believe about those events in life
and the actions you take based on those beliefs. Do you allow
yourself to become trapped and defeated by fears, stress, and
victim mentalities? Or, do you pause to restore yourself and regain
your inner peace, inner strength, and stability?
These are the moments of our opportunities. Sometimes,
I think, these things happen so that we can reaffirm, clarify
and strengthen our faith and our beliefs. Sometimes these things
happen so we can remember that we have the choice of how we will
experience this world. Sometimes delays are preparing us for an
even better experience than we had imagined or are protecting
us from something we really didn't want to begin with. (See the
section on Bruce Lipton for information on how science is proving
that our beliefs change our biology.)
How do you see the world around you? Is it friendly,
kind, and loving to you? Do you feel supported? Are you willing
to take responsibility for your life and your experiences? Or
have you taken on a victim mentality and the belief that things
are just "happening" to you? Are you allowing other peoples limiting
beliefs to limit your life?
Are you willing to give up your old, negative beliefs
and habits to embrace a positive, powerful way of living? When
things aren't going the way you thought they should, are you choosing
to stay focused on the vision of what you know is the truth?
Our beliefs and our choices build our life. Believe
in yourself and the lovingness of the Universe. Make powerful,
positive choices for your life. Don't let anyone or anything hold
you back from your vision. Live your life with excitement, joy,
love, and the certainty that life is rich and abundant. YOU deserve
it!
With love and blessings,

BRUCE LIPTON: HOW OUR BELIEFS BUILD
OUR LIFE!
For those of you who don't know Bruce, he is a cellular
and developmental biologist who presents compelling evidence based
on scientific studies to show that our beliefs control our biology
and our lives.
Through an in-depth study of research, Bruce has
compiled a tremendous amount of evidence that we are not victims
of our genes and we do not have to live at the mercy of modern
medicine. Instead, our beliefs control our behavior, control our
genes, and actually can rewrite our genes in response to the way
we view the world.
The work he presents includes studies showing changes
in the size of areas of our brain based on emotional perceptions.
Specifically, fear and stress cause the body to reduce the blood
supply to our forebrain, where intelligence is active, to supply
the rear brain which is ready to operate the muscles of our arms
and legs for a flight or fight response. We actually become less
intelligent when we believe we are in a stress condition. When
we are feeling joy and love, the blood supply to your forebrain
is increased so you have a heightened ability to think, create,
and process information.
This is only a taste of Bruce's work. I can only
tell you that as a former Biology professor, I was fascinated
with the studies that showed the fundamental ideas we've been
teaching for years cannot possibly be true!
Makes sense when you see it all. For more information

AWAKENING A GLOBAL VISION
For those of you who are interested in finding out
more about how our thoughts and the collective consciousness can
change our world, I'm going to pass along information on two organizations
that are making a difference in the world.
The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) was founded
30 years ago by Edgar Mitchell after his celebrated moonwalk to
understand the wholeness and interconnectedness of life, and the
power of the mind. Searching for solutions to the problems that
face us, their "goal is to develop a deeper comprehension of human
experience in order to help build a global society in which reason
and spirit are fully integrated." In easy terms, these are the
folks who are doing the scientific research that proves that we
are evolving as a species and as a planet, and what that means
to us all in practical terms. For more information, visit www.noetic.org.
The Association for Global New Thought (AGNT) is
a leading edge organization with the purpose "to consciously bring
forth the evolving human and an awakened world through the practice
of universal spiritual principles and the energy of unconditional
love." For more information on AGNT, visit their website at www.agnt.org.
